Southeast Community Council

Residents from diverse local neighborhoods, paid a stipend for their participation, are trained to interface with local governmental agencies with the ultimate goal of building knowledge and power in Bayview Hunters Point regarding environmental, land use, and economic development decisions.

COUNCIL MEMBERS

Shirley Ailsworth, MA, LMFT
Shirley Ailsworth is a licensed mental health provider with a commitment of providing services to disenfranchised populations. Shirley is an advocate for increasing mental health wellness, political awareness and social action. She has had a strong partnership for the past 6 years with the San Francisco SPCA Animal Assisted Therapy Program with her dog Bella. She prepares and serves hot meals at Providence Homeless Shelter located in the Bayview Hunters Point Neighborhood. Her involvement has also included being an Ambassador for Change with Stanford Cancer Institute Community Partnership Program. She is also an active life time member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated serving and supporting San Francisco and Marin counties.

Marna Armstead
Marna was born and raised in the Bayview District of San Francisco. She began her love affair with childbirth and the desire to support pregnant women 18 ago after the birth of her daughter. She is the founding member of SisterWeb and current Executive Director. SisterWeb is a program focused on providing peer doulas of color to low-income and marginalized women of color in SF.

Gloria Berry
Gloria Berry is a Native San Franciscan, Grandmother, Bayview resident and a United States Veteran. She worked at San Quentin for eight years. Ms. Berry has been a community activist for over ten years and was previously homeless. She is currently on the New Community Leadership Foundation advisory committee, Beds 4 Bayview member supporting the United Council for Human Services’ work for homelessness services in Bayview, the founder of Berry Powerful Ladies, and recently was elected to the San Francisco Democratic Party County Central Committee.

Linda Eng
Linda has been a Sunnydale resident for 18 years. She is an active translator, coordinator and advocate for her Cantonese neighbors. She works for her local food pantry and sits on the Sunnydale Tenants Association, and resident advisory board for Sunnydale housing. She is a board member of Healthy Homes and a resident advocate for SF Housing.

Mónica Ferrey
Monica has been a Public Housing Organizer for Hope SF, and Community Development Leader for 5 years. She worked as the elected representative of SF Public Housing with Hope SF, seniors, disabled, and subsidized housing residents. She currently serves as President of the Potrero Annex Tenant Association and acting facility coordinator at Potrero Emergency Childcare for disaster service worker deployment, and is the Vice President of the SF Citywide Public Housing Tenants Association.

Sabrina Hall
Sabrina was born and raised in San Francisco, Hunters Point District. Mother of four, and a community activist. She is a member of Bayview Hunters Point Mothers and Fathers Committee, Student Site Council and African American Parent Advisory Council (AAPAC) at Paul Revere Elementary, California Environmental Justice Coalition, and Sub-Committee member for GreenAction for Health and Environmental Justice.

Renay Jenkins
Renay is a community activist, mother, UCLA grad, with familial and historical ties to the Bayview district. As a writer, she is committed to healing, unifying, and empowering the black community as a whole. She works closely with Bayview Mothers and Fathers and GreenAction for Health and Environmental Justice.

Tandia L. O’Neal, MBA
Tandia is a native of San Francisco. She is currently a Social Worker at Dr. George Davis Senior Center. She holds a degree in Sociology from Fisk University, and a Music Related Industry Certificate from San Francisco State University. She just recently completed her MBA at Holy Names University in Oakland, CA and looking to start an Entertainment Company. Ms. O’Neal has two children, a daughter Tori, and son Troy. Ms. O’Neal is currently an active member of NABFEME (National Association of Black Female Executives in Music and Entertainment) and San Francisco Black Professional Women Inc. She also Co-Founded Friends of Palou/Phelps Mini Park and co-facilitates BVHP Park Collaborative. She is also a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc.

Chris Whipple
Chris has lived with his family in Bayview, the neighborhood where his partner grew up, for the last 10 years. He’s a technologist who works at the Electronic Frontier Foundation, working to ensure that technology supports freedom, justice, and innovation for all the people of the world. He volunteers at Bound Together Anarchist Collective Bookstore in the Haight, sits on the board of the Bayview Hill Neighborhood Association, and is on the steering committee of the Marie Harrison Bayview Air Quality Monitoring Project.
